Professional Quality and Efficiency Study Revisited

In an expanded and enhanced re-examination of the 2004 study, evidence-based medicine is once again found to be poorly correlated with episodic cost efficiency.

“Weak exceptions exist in certain specialties, where quality gains tend to correspond with declining efficiency, a directional relationship also seen in the previous study.”

These recurring findings reinforce the recommendation that each practice characteristic should be measured separately.
